Few names in R&B can boast the legendary career and catalogue that Monica possesses.
It’s especially fitting, then, that the singer has been named the recipient of the Lady of Soul honor at the forthcoming Soul Train Awards.

Organizers for the November 29 event announced the news moments ago.
As well as being presented with the award, Monica will also be performing.
The GRAMMY-winner joins previously announced performers Brandy, Babyface, CeeLo Green, Charlie Wilson, Ella Mai, Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Daye, and Smokey Robinson.
Hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell, this year’s Soul Train nominations sees H.E.R. lead with 8, Chris Brown following with 7, and Beyonce and Young Thug securing 6 each.
The show will simulcast on BET, BET Her, VH1 and MTV2 at 8 PM ET.

Very well deserved & long overdue. What I hate is how Monica’s legacy is constantly being downplayed by the industry & critics. Monica has hits galore & has done several things for the evolvement of R&B.
This fan from Canada is so happy and proud of Monica. She remained true to who she is and released music according to how she felt. While authenticity might have denied her coveted awards, it got her a legion of fan that have remained with her.
This is a great moment for Monica as it has been long time coming. I truly hope that the industry continues to bless her with praise while we still have her.

She had so many hits. she was the youngest artist to have 3 # 1s in a row on the r&b charts. she was 12 sounding like an adult and well deserved of this award tired of seeing popularity awards .Soul train the only one who always get it right .Google the charts and listen to her songs that wasn’t released as singles and still was hits.25 yrs later she still getting radio play with her latest single and on television. sound like a winner to me. if you can out sing her or got more money than her post it. we will wait .crickets .Congrats monica . stand on the haters necks
